It's MY photo, so why are YOU stealing it?

If you post your images online sooner or later they will get stolen. It seriously is not a matter of if they will, face it, they WILL. And that is what has happened to me. Not once, not twice, but numerous times. But this time it wasn't a blogger or someone on a usergroup stealing my photo to use in their profile. This time it was company. A for profit entity. An entity that should know better than to blatantly steal from someone else.

So with this post I am taking a stand! I am not going to bow down to some corporation who thinks that my art is theirs for the taking. It seriously offends me to think that this happens to so many of us photographers on a daily basis and that we so often give up on our rights. I want MY pursuit of this to be inspiration to all of YOU who have been wronged by those who have stolen your photos, your art, your livelihood.

I will be keeping this blog updated regularly with my progress in fighting the company known as Shield On Site Services. I will be continually letting them know via their Twitter account @ShieldOSS that I deserve compensation for their theft of my work. I would of course be grateful to you if you happen to let them know via Twitter that @MacDonald_Photo (me) deserves better than this.

Here is what I have done so far.

#1 I sent them a letter via their websites contact form letting them know they are infringing on my copyright and that they need to take it down IMMEDIATELY or contact me to negotiate purchasing rights to use it.

#2 I waited almost a week with NO RESPONSE whatsoever.

#3 I started tweeting today with their Twitter handle in the message telling them they need to rectify this situation.

#4 I have posted on Google+ and again numerous times on Twitter and have alse been getting re-Tweets from other photographers (thank you ALL for the support!)

#5 I submitted a DMCA takedown with Google.

#6 I submitted a post to Stopstealingphotos.Tumblr.com

And now I wait.

For those interested in the image and how it was used..Please see below.
Keep in mind, this was a SELF PORTRAIT and they covered me up...  Jerks. ;)

My Urbex self portrait. URL leads to the Flickr page. Probably where they stole it.

And here is a screenshot of their site. Classy isn't it? :\

I hope this never happens to you. We deserve better than this. The link will take you to their site.

Again, I thank you for any publicity you can give this. I hope this can inspire others to stand up for the rights of their work!!!

Take care.
